History
Me vs Guter, 1 on 1.. We felt that talk of NFL gambling success was being overstated by a few (un-named) friends. And both of us thought we were good bettors.. so we settled on a season-long, cumulative competition.. with a set of Darlington (NASCAR) tickets on the line. It came down to Woo winning on a late Carolina cover in the super bowl.. and I had the pleasure of watching it unfold in Vegas with my homeboy. Special. The 2003 Sheet
. After hearing friends rave about all their great plays, we were skeptical and itching to see their results in person. Our first patient.. Tommy Lum. Dead money if there ever was some. Woo wins again. Was ahead coming into the Super Bowl & all 3 of us (me, Guti, Lum) took Donovan/TO and the Eagles plus a seemingly sweet 7 points.. The Patriots crushed. Bad decisions abounded, and I broke exactly even for the year to claim my 2nd straight title. The 2004 Sheet
League jumps to 7 players.. and we absolutely kick ass with a league-wide 59% win percentage! Guter wins with a +$6,000 bankroll and a massive 69% win rate. Woo a “lousy” 2nd at +$5450 and 67% . We eliminated the playoffs from this season, and also week 1. I can vouch that 2nd place is a tough spot to swallow when you bet that well and walk away with less real coinage than you started with.. The 2005 Sheet
. We grow to 14.. The pot gets bigger,, more than just 1st place now gets paid.. and the Commish realizes he’d better shape up his gambling picks with this much competition. Fenwick takes the big prize with some final week heroics.. Larry and Karl take the Place & Show positions. The 2006 Sheet
League remains at 14 with Russ replacing Josh Cummins. A barely positive year league-wide (negative with juice included) with lots of volatility. Randall looked to be running away with it, then fell out of orbit before finishing 4th, our breakeven spot. Fratty & Bo tie for 2nd, while Karlos grabs top spot and receives a tidy $1300 from the boys. A fun year — the Americans clearly have their work cut out for them next season. The 2007 Sheet
Solid season of betting. Guti takes the big dough with a 66% win rate. To the amazement of many, Tommy Lum challenged hard — with the lead going into the final week — but came up just short. Kid still gets paid. In round numbers, $1600 to Guti, $800 to Lum, Remmy (aka dead money, 1st year player) takes third for $400, and Eason breaks even after nice late season surge. The 2008 Sheet
